Dendrites are fern like crystal inclusions that occur generally in quartz and agate, or on the faces of thin cracks in sandstone and mudstone. At first sight dendrites look like fossil plants, but they are actually beaching crystals of manganese oxide. Dendrites are some of the most spectacular inclusions found in gemstones and truly a great example of art in nature.
