In 1966 when Australia changed its currency from pounds to dollars the round 50 cent pieces was introduced . Made from 80 percent silver and 20 percent copper ,by 1967 their silver content was worth more than the coin so they were discontinued and the hexagonal 50 cent made from copper and nickel was introduced . The round silver 50 cent piece was the last Australian coin to be worth its face value in precious metal, because of this it has been collected ever since . We decided to make pendants out of this iconic and beautiful Australian coin.
