Antique yellow melon beads are only found in far eastern Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The egg cowrie is common throughout the Indo-Pacific region and is extensively used as adornment. This necklace has been re strung from its original form that was part of the collection of the reverend TG Gibson, it was originally collected in PNG in the 1890s. Purchased from an antique dealer in Hobart , Tasmania . A stunning statement piece of tribal art.
